Best easy access bank accounts for UK savers

There are many different types of savings accounts on the market, from cash ISAs to fixed rate bonds. Some interest-paying accounts have limits on the number of withdrawals you can make and are best suited to those who want to lock their money away while it grows.

But if you are just looking for a straightforward saver which allows easy access, here are three of the best bank accounts on the UK high street.

Northern Rock Everyday Access Online – This internet-only savings account has a decent rate of interest at 2.75 per cent which does not include an introductory bonus. As well as being allowed to make unlimited deposits and withdrawals, savers can choose to have the interest paid monthly or yearly. The account can be opened with a minimum deposit of £1.

Santander eSaver Issue 4 – This account pays interest at a rate of 3.1 per cent which includes a 2.6 per cent bonus for the first 12 months. It can be managed either by telephone or online and can be opened with £1 upwards. Again, savers have the option of monthly or annual interest, in addition to unlimited withdrawals and deposits.

Leeds Building Society Online Access Account – This account, which can only be managed online, guarantees to pay 2.55 per cent above the Bank of England base rate until the end of August 2012, so it is currently paying a total of 3.05 per cent interest. The minimum deposit required to open the account is £100 and withdrawals can be made at any time.

Many bank accounts in the UK offer an introductory bonus interest rate for the first year, which may be worth bearing in mind in case a higher rate of interest becomes available elsewhere after the bonus period ends.
