More people than ever are setting up businesses from home, a new survey suggests.
These new businesses can range from computer consultancy, teaching and counseling to even gardening.
A survey of 1,400 adults by Lloyds TSB Business Insurance showed that 200 ran a home-based business, with garages, spare rooms and bedrooms being converted into work spaces.
Half of those surveyed said that they prefer working from home because they can be their own boss, while a fifth said they had decided to change career. A further two-fifths said they liked the flexible working hours, while a smattering said that working from home made it easier to look after the kids.
Stuart Curtis, of Lloyds TSB Insurance, said: ‘The number of enterprising people opting to turn their home into their business hub is set to increase over the next year as the recession continues to bite.’
