Want lower energy bills?

With the cost of living rising and many people's wages remaining stagnant, lots of us are taking a long hard look at our finances to see where we can save money. One of the best and easiest places to start is to see if you can lower the energy bills in your home.

How to lower your energy bills

Here are a few tips to help you lower your energy bills.

Turn off the lights

It's surprising how many people leave the lights on after they leave a room. The switch is right there by the door and we still manage to forget! Get in the habit of switching off unused lights - it's one of the easiest ways to reduce your electric bill. Candle light is nice in some situations too!

Hang out your washing

A tumble dryer is a real time saver in our hectic lives, but it uses up a lot of energy. If you have a smaller load or you have a few moments to spare, hang your washing out to dry. Your clothes smell nicer too.

Change your bulbs

Change your bulbs for more energy efficient ones. They may be more expensive upfront but they will save you money over time.

Wash your clothes at lower temperatures

Washing clothes at lower temperatures will save you money. A hot wash may be required for stubborn stains, but daily loads can been cooler.

Don’t overfill the kettle

The more water you put in the kettle, the more energy it takes to boil it. If there's water left in the kettle after you've used what you need, it's just wasted energy.

Although these ideas will only save you small amounts of money in the short term, by doing them all and doing them consistently you will save significantly in the long run. And not only will you be rewarded with lower energy bills, you'll also be helping the environment - so it's a win win situation.
