Who makes Tesco own brand products?

Tesco branded goods are cheaper than those from major manufacturers but they’re normally as good. As Tesco doesn’t produce any food itself (except for the bakery stuff that’s made on site), who makes, packages and delivers these products on Tesco’s behalf?

This example of “very good business all around” is followed by Heinz too. They make the Tesco own baked beans. All they do to differentiate their premium product from the cheaper Tesco own stuff is to use tomato puree in place of fresh tomatoes.

McVitie’s Digestives aren’t the only digestives that McVities make. These guys produce the digestives for all the major supermarkets including Tesco. Apparently though, Marks and Spencer take the best batches and leave the rest for the likes of Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrison and Asda to squabble over.

Princes corned beef is the best stuff on the market in a lot of people’s opinion but these guys also produce ASDA own brand corned beef. And the rumour is that the corned beef in Tesco own brand also comes from Princes.

Ultimately the point of non-branded goods is to lower your bill when you reach the check out. When the quality of the product within the tin isn’t compromised because the major manufacturers are involved with the own branded goods, consumers really are in a win-win situation.
