Prepare for energy price rise
Anxious consumers are bracing themselves for the latest hike in energy prices from British Gas, which the compant hinted last Tuesday could come into force 'within weeks.'
But energy experts are banking on a 20 percent rise to come in sooner rather later, with Mark Todd of energyhelpline.com saying: 'Energy companies often announce price rises on Fridays. If I were a betting man, my money would be on this Friday or next. I expect British Gas to raise its gas prices by between 18 percent and 20 percent and its electricity prices by between 8 percent and 9 percent.'
The rise will undoubtedly send a shockwave through households across the country. Consumer group Which? claim that for 84 percent of its members the cost of gas and electricity is their number one worry.
The move is likely to drive many to find a cheaper, fixed-rate tariff. 'This time, a fix is the way to go,' added Mr Todd. 'There are no guarantees with online deals – if you move to one now, a price rise could be announced and come into force before the switch takes effect.'
