Short term deposits in the UK - some top rates

There are currently some great short term deposit rates being offered. Below are some of the top short term deposits on the market.

Northern Rock

Northern Rock have a 12 months fixed rate term deposit that pays 3.25% interest in balances of £1 and over. The maximum investment amount is £2 million. Only a lump sum investment is allowed and you cannot make withdrawals during the term.

Lloyds TSB

Lloyds offer short term deposits for a range of fixed terms that start at 6 months and go to 4 years. Interest is guaranteed and rates start from 2.1% annual equivalent rate for periods up to 1 year. They also offer the choice of when and how your interest is paid.


Nationwide offer short term deposits that pay tiered rates of interest depending on how much you invest. Rates are as high as 2.9% and this is paid for deposits over £50,000. Deposits between £1 and £10,000 have a rate of 2.65%. Interest can be paid monthly or annually.


Santander have a one year fixed rate bond. The minimum initial investment is £500 and the maximum is £2 million. Amounts up to £25,000 receive a rate of 3.05% and amounts over this get 3.2%. Interest is paid yearly.


Britannia has a range of short term deposits. They have a one year fixed rate bond with a minimum deposit of £1,000 required. The interest rate is paid net of the basic tax rate and it is not possible to make withdrawals from this account until maturity.
